Guides, outfitters and lodges are the fastest growing segment of AFFTA membership, and for good reason. Each of our guide members has a big job to do every year, and usually only a few months to make their season count in order to provide for their entire year. We recognize that at AFFTA, and we aim to give these boots-on-the-ground ambassadors of fishing the best tools possible to make the most of their seasons.
International Fly Tackle Dealer Show
IFTD is the largest fly fishing trade show in the world and the single best venue for our members to connect and establish relationships face-to-face. The show is a one-stop-shop for retailers to visit their manufacturers and view new products, conduct business meetings, conceptualize marketing plans and opportunities and to make connections with industry media. IFTD also hosts the annual New Product Showcase, Drake Film Awards, Iron Fly competition, and Pond Hog casting competition. Don’t miss this opportunity to gather and network with YOUR industry.
AFFTA Guide & Outfitter insurance
Guides and outfitters who are AFFTA members have the huge benefit of purchasing commercial liability insurance as a group at a special discounted rate. With an annual premium of $400, guides and outfitters are offered coverage of $2 million in aggregate coverage and $1 million in coverage per occurrence. Outfitters who employ guides can also add members to their policy for $175 each. For more information please contact The Bissell Agency.
Fly Fishing Angler Recruitment at Consumer Shows
AFFTA has collaborated with The Fly Fishing Shows, the largest and most experienced producer of consumer fly fishing shows in the country. The Fly Fishing Shows are dedicated to consumer growth with manufacturers, retailers, guides and outfitters, lodges and resorts, clubs and groups all in attendance. Each show includes a casting pond, for product demos, seminars and teaching, staffed by industry legends, experienced teachers, media personalities, and passionate volunteers.
AFFTA Fisheries Fund
The AFFTA Fisheries Fund was created as a funding arm for fisheries conservation and education efforts. This targeted giving program is aimed at preserving habitat, wildlife and access to our healthy fisheries, and also growing new anglers. Grant applications are collected quarterly and awarded throughout the year. Members are also encouraged to make tax deductible donations to the Fisheries Fund.
Advocacy & Government Affairs
Without access to healthy fisheries, guides, outfitters and lodges would not be able to continue to business. One of AFFTA’s biggest industry efforts is speaking out on behalf of anglers at the federal, state and local level on issues important to the growth of our business. From conservation issues such as the Clean Water Act to access issues such as the Utah Stream Access Coalition, AFFTA works with our seasoned Government Affairs staff, board and lobbyists to ensure the fly fishing industry continues to move forward in the years to come.
AFFTA On The Fly
AFFTA’s quarterly newsletter offers engagement opportunities with our membership, and acts as a conduit for vital industry news and updates. All AFFTA members are added to our subscription list, and consistently in the loop regarding industry changes and updates.
AFFTA provides continuing education and professional development opportunities for industry members ranging from full day retailer ‘university’ events to networking opportunities where ideas can be shared in social settings. Industry members can attend relevant seminars at the International Fly Tackle Dealer (IFTD) addressing a wide range of topics from marketing and merchandising, to business planning and regulatory compliance.
