Access to the Industry & Angling Public at Consumer Shows
AFFTA has collaborated with The Fly Fishing Shows, the largest and most experienced producer of consumer fly fishing shows in the country. The Fly Fishing Shows are dedicated to consumer growth with manufacturers, retailers, guides and outfitters, lodges and resorts, clubs and groups all in attendance. Each show includes a casting pond, for product demos, seminars and teaching, staffed by industry legends, experienced teachers, media personalities, and passionate volunteers.
Retailer and Sales Rep Insurance Program
The AFFTA insurance program for retailers has been very successful in saving many of our clients 20-30% or more over their previous insurer. With multiple carriers available, the program provides insurance coverage for general liability, business personal property, rentals, commercial auto’s and umbrella coverage. Some of our most recent clients include fly shops and fishing lodges and light manufacturing.
The Sales Rep Program provides $45,000 in business personal property for dealers samples, inventory and business personal property. Liability is also included for $1,000,000 per occurrence with a $2,000,000 aggregate. Cost for this program is a very competitive $500 annually.

AFFTA Fisheries Fund
The AFFTA Fisheries Fund was created as a funding arm for fisheries conservation and education efforts. This targeted giving program is aimed at preserving habitat, wildlife and access to our healthy fisheries, and also growing new anglers. Grant applications are collected quarterly and awarded throughout the year. Members are also encouraged to make tax deductible donations to the Fisheries Fund.
Advocacy & Government Affairs
Without access to healthy fisheries, our industry would not be able to continue to do business. One of AFFTA’s biggest industry efforts is speaking out on behalf of anglers at the federal, state and local level on issues important to the growth of our industry. From conservation issues such as the Clean Water Act to access issues such as the Utah Stream Access Coalition, AFFTA works with our seasoned Government Affairs staff, board and lobbyists to ensure the fly fishing industry continues to move forward in the years to come.

AFFTA’s quarterly newsletter offers engagement opportunities with our membership, and acts as a conduit for vital industry news and updates. All AFFTA members are added to our subscription list, and consistently in the loop regarding industry changes and updates.
Every few years, AFFTA contracts with Southwick Associates to conduct a comprehensive research survey on the trends in the American fly-fishing market. This study establishes the size of the retail fly-fishing market, provides detailed information for every major category of fly-fishing product and is an indispensable resource for any business or organization interested in tracking industry trend changes. The survey is provided free-of-charge to all AFFTA members.
AFFTA provides continuing education and professional development opportunities for industry members ranging from retailer ‘university’ events to networking opportunities where ideas can be shared in social settings. Industry members can attend relevant seminars at the International Fly Tackle Dealer (IFTD) addressing a wide range of topics from marketing and merchandising, to business planning and regulatory compliance.
