Showing support for gulf coast recreational fishing community.
Denver, Colo. – AFFTA Chairman, Jim Klug of Yellow Dog Outfitters, made the announcement that AFFTA intends to take IFTD to New Orleans, LA for 2011. The planned dates for the show will be August 18-20, 2011.
The AFFTA board authorized AFFTA President, Randi Swisher, to begin negotiations and make the arrangements necessary to bring the 2011 IFTD to New Orleans. The board was extremely enthusiastic about the opportunity to show support for the Gulf Coast region and to show that the fly-fishing industry is committed to helping the region recovery.
“We had several goals for next year’s show, and realized that doing more of the same was simply not an option. We wanted a different location, a venue that made sense for our members and our organization, and somewhere people could have fun,” said Klug. “When you add in the opportunity to support the Gulf Coast’s recreational fishing community and those in our industry based in that region, it was a no brainer.”
AFFTA had surveyed its members and a number of cities were under consideration. There was clear interest in doing the show closer to the east coast. AFFTA President Randi Swisher presented the AFFTA Board with a variety of options with New Orleans being one of the more attractive because of location and cost.
“We are still very cognizant of our financial situation”, said Swisher. “We wanted to put on the best show possible and make it both affordable and enjoyable for everyone.”
AFFTA will make additional announcements as details get worked out. Information will posted on the AFFTA website at www.AFFTA.com, and on the AFFTA and IFTD facebook pages. www.facebook.com/iftdshow and www.facebook.com/affta.
